5th International Postgraduate Conference in Translation and Interpreting, 21-22
November 2009

We are pleased to announce the Fifth International Postgraduate Conference in
Translation and Interpreting (IPCITI 2009) which will take place at Heriot-Watt
University, Edinburgh, on 21-22 November 2009.
Conference Aims
This two-day conference is designed to give translation and interpreting
postgraduates from ALL research areas an opportunity to present and discuss
their research in an informal and intellectually stimulating setting.
IPCITI 2009 is the fifth in a series of postgraduate conferences which marks the
consolidation of a series of international conferences organised in
collaboration between the University of Edinburgh, Dublin City University, the
University of Manchester and Heriot-Watt University. The aim of IPCITI 2009 is
to promote greater participation in translation and interpreting research and
address salient issues in the field, and to promote a supportive environment in
which young researchers can exchange ideas on current themes and issues in
Translation Studies.
Because our event is intended for all students from the discipline of
translation and interpreting studies, we have chosen to keep it widely focused
so that delegates are invited to submit abstracts from ALL areas relating to
translation and interpreting studies.

EULITA – European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association

For some time now the EU Commission DG Justice, Freedom and Security has felt
the need to be able to consult an organization that is representative of the
legal interpreters and translators in the EU.
Other legal professionals such as public prosecutors, lawyers, judges or police
officers, all have their EU associations and can be heard on matters that are of
interest or concern to them in the European Commission. The legal interpreters
and translators, as yet, do not have such a representative body.
That is why a consortium of academic and professional organizations have
proposed the establishment of EULITA, the European Legal Interpreters and
Translators Association.

To mark the launching of EULITA and reflect on the opportunities and challenges
before us in the field of legal interpreting and translation, the participants
in the EULITA- project would like to invite you to a three-day conference on
Aspects of Legal Interpreting and Translation:
Antwerp, 26-28 November 2009

On the first day of the conference, the mission statement, the constitution,
organization, website and envisaged activities of EULITA will be presented and
discussed, followed by the official launch of the association at the new Antwerp
courthouse.
The following two days will be devoted to sharing information on interesting and
relevant aspects of legal interpreting and translation training and practice.
