Subject: 'Jammers on the net' October FPA Rankings
tournaments including the FPA Worlds in Rimini are added and points
from several 2001 tournaments (FPA Worlds, Jammers, Tennessee States
and Manpico) are retired.
There is a new Women's number one. Cindy Kruger's Worlds win in
Women's and fifth place in Mixed gave her enough points to edge ahead
of Judy Robbins (2nd Women's/6th Mixed) by only 25 points. Their
point totals are so large that there are no tournaments that can
affect their ranking until 2004. Their battle will take a break
until the first FPA tour events next spring. Now is the time for
them to make an assault on the top of the Open rankings.
Lisa Hunrichs-Silvey's double win in Rimini boosts her up to number
3. Remember, she has no Women's points from the 2002 worlds.
Bethany Sanchez's second place in Mixed in Rimini, plus newly
reported results from the Wisconsin States, bring her into the top
five.
Two significant debuts in the top ten are Karolina Hagenbjörk and
Linda Törngren, the rising Swedish stars. Their solid finishes in
Women's and Mixed, their Co-op performance with Sarah Bergman in
Rimini, plus their two Swedish championships have propelled them
quickly into the top ten. Everyone who saw them in Rimini agrees
they have a bright future.
Three significant players dropped off the Women's list this month.
Neither Stacy McCarthy, Nikki Ross nor Deanna Ross have played a
freestyle tournament since the 2001 FPA Worlds. Their presence is
missed.
Though they didn't defend their double win from 2001, Arthur
Coddington and Dave Lewis came close enough with a first in Pairs and
a second in Co-op. They retain the top two rankings spots by a
healthy margin.
Dave Murphy jumps into the top three by less than a point over new
co-op world champ Paul Kenny. Paul's co-op teammate Tommy Leitner
is lurking just nine points back at number five. Though Paul
replaced his 2001 Worlds points (2nd Co-op/2nd Pairs) with about the
same number in Rimini (1st Co-op/3rd pairs), he lost lots of points
when the 2001 Jammers fell off the rankings. Sune Wentzel, the third
member of the champion co-op team, makes a huge jump from 50 to 19.
Pat Marron jumps to number eight, entering the top ten for the first
time by nailing second place in Pairs in Rimini and winning the
Wisconsin States. Congratulations, Pat.
It's a fitting tribute to the success of Rimini that Italy now boasts
three players in the top twenty. Clay Collera vaults up to number 13
with his third place in Pairs and fifth in Co-op. Ciakka Uakka
teammates Lorenzo Apriani and Nando Botrugno join him at numbers 18
and 20, respectively. Lorenzo solidified his ranking by winning
Romashred.
Other Italian players making big moves this month include Alessandro
Damiano (#47), Andrea Farnocchia (#54), Enrico Barsanti (#68),
Edoardo Favorini (#93), rookie-of-the-year frontrunner Matteo Gaddani
(#96), Paolo Mirabelli (#105), Lorenzo Manzoni (#108) and Luca
Gagliardi (#136).
The FPA Worlds make a big impact on the rankings, but an even greater
force are the smaller club tournaments. Holding a local tournament
like Romashred, the Freestyle Fete or the Best Damn Freestyle
Tournament gives everyone a chance to scores some extra ranking
points and have a fun competitive experience, especially for newer
jammers. If you can get four or more players together - of any
playing level - your event is eligible for ranking points. Lowkey
local events are a key to building a playing base for our sport.
Don't be afraid to host one on the spur of the moment and experiment
with formats and judging systems.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or notice any
possible errors.
