Fundamental Quality Control:
The What, Why, and How (Part 1) (QC01)
Teleconference
588-661-09
Sponsored by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute and
the Association of Public Health Laboratories
Program Date: November 5, 2009
Program Time: 1:00 - 2:00 PM (ET)
Location: Teleconference
Registration Deadline: October 28, 2009
Description:
Every nonwaived test performed in the clinical laboratory requires testing personnel to process a sample of known value to ensure the testing system can produce an accurate result. Correctly performed quality control (QC) ensures patient test results can be reported confidently to health care providers. In Part 1 of this two-part series, you will learn the basics of QC, why QC must be performed, how to perform basic QC calculations such as standard deviation and coefficient of variation, and how to prepare a Levey-Jennings (L-J) chart. In Part 2, you will have the opportunity to learn how to interpret Levey-Jennings charts to evaluate QC results and to troubleshoot “out-of-control” conditions.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, the participants will be able to:
- Identify materials used in a medical laboratory QC program.
- List three fundamentals of a QC program.
- Explain basic QC statistical calculations.
