Peace College



What?

Peace College wants to offer a group of 3 to 7 volunteers the opportunity to
educate themselves into the subjects of "Peace", "Peace keeping" and "Non
Violence". To study about the philosophical sense of Peace, and what that means
on personal, civil and global level and to learn about possible actions or
strategies for peace keeping. The study part will be mainly non-formal, and
students can give self-direction to their learning process and path.



Where?

Peace College is an old house in the North East of Slovenia. The house is
situated high up in the mountains. Volunteers must be capable and willing to
live in mountains with nearest little village and Internet acces at 20 km
distance. It is a beautifull natural area with waterfalls and majestic mountain
landscapes.



Who?

We invite up to 7 volunteers.

There will be one or two Asian teachers who are responsible for the learning
process, and will be together with the volunteers throughout the entire project.

There will be different resource persons invited on initiative of the volunteers
to guide the learning process and to provide lectures where needed.

There will be a mentor available for the volunteers that will guide them on
personal and practical level through the volunteering period.



When?

The College will last about 6 months starting in May or July 2007. Volunteers
are invited to initiate a follow up project after that period. For that we have
as well a budget foreseen.



Conditions.

Full board and lodging will be provided. Volunteers get some pocket money and
in case of EVS volunteers the travel costs are 100% reimbursed.

Volunteers have their own bedroom and all facilities are available in the house.

Volunteers are assisted in cooking their own meals by the cook of the house.
Please note that ALL MEALS ARE VEGETARIAN (without meat)



Volunteering.

The volunteers spend 38 hours per week on the project; all other hours are
concidered free time.

The study part will take 50% of the time, the other 50% the volunteers can do
practical work around the house, learn about the surrounding walking paths in
the mountains, cultivate the gardens around the house, get together with the
local youth club of the nearest town, organise personal projects and take part
or assist in workshops of the house (mainly workshops on Cultural and Spiritual
themes for local and international groups of guests; examples of workshops that
take place are Yoga, Shiatsu, Kung-Fu, Rebirthing, mushroom picking, .). The
volunteers will also take part in a 2-week international workcamp of Service
Civil International (www.sciint.org) that will take place at the venue.



Practical arrangements.

We accept EVS volunteers, or volunteers with own funding. If you want to come
as EVS volunteer you need to cooperate with one NGO or association in your
country of residence. For more information on potential sending organisations,
please contact us as soon as possible.

If you are a sending organisation, we apply to the standard EVS criteria
concerning all practical and financial arrangements; please contact us for more
information.
